- 1965 - Founded as Maxwell Laboratories
- 1983 - Initial public offering of Maxwell common stock
- 1984 - Merged with S-Cubed, Inc.
- 1990 - Acquired I-Bus industrial computing business
- 1991 - Acquired Sierra components business
- 1996 - Changed name to Maxwell Technologies, Inc.
- 1998 - Acquired Physics International government contracting business
- 1998 - Acquired Tri-Map computing business in UK
- 1999 - Acquired Space Electronics microelectronics business
- 2001 - Divested original government contracting business to focus on commercial products
- 2002 - Acquired Montena Components SA, located in Rossens, Switzerland
- 2003 - Montena Components SA becomes Maxwell Technologies SA and celebrates its 100th anniversary
