This Week at #ESACon19: Ultracapacitor Storage for Microgrids
April 15, 2019 | Maxwell Technologies
What roles do ultracapacitors (supercapacitors) play for microgrids?
Join Maxwell Technologies at this week’s Energy Storage Association Annual Conference and Expo at the Phoenix (Arizona) Convention Center, to learn about the multiple technical and cost advantages of ultracapacitor storage systems for microgrids, including their ability to deploy as stand-alone energy storage systems or in combination with other energy storage assets, including batteries.
Be sure to see Maxwell’s Senior Director of Technical Marketing and Business Development Kim McGrath, Ph.D., MBA, participate on a panel titled, "A Focus on Microgrids." She’ll provide attendees with her perspective on the reliability, lifetime performance and economic benefits of ultracapacitors.
In addition to the panel, Maxwell will highlight two ultracapacitor subsystems for grid energy storage: the Grid Energy Storage System (GESS) and the Grid Cell Pack (GCP). These highly scalable products deliver reliable, fast-responding, long lifetime storage in grids and microgrids and address the growing need for power-intense grid services. Maxwell’s GESS and GCP are designed to:
The Maxwell GESS and GCP are the first-to-market grid and microgrid ultracapacitor systems to address the power gap caused by increasing renewable energy generation and frequency deviances in the grid.
Attendees should also ask about the design-in of Maxwell’s ultracapacitor-based grid energy storage subsystem with Siemens. The Siemens Static VAR Compensator plus Frequency Stabilizer (SVC PLUS FS) enables ISOs, electric utilities and transmission system operators to have better control of their grids and reduce the risk of blackouts.
Combined with a global decline in traditional fossil-based energy sources, new energy storage resources must respond faster, cycle more frequently and support grid ancillary services to ensure grid stability and resiliency.
Maxwell looks forward to meeting with customers and colleagues at the ESA Conference & Expo, and share how our ultracapacitor storage supports utility grids and microgrids despite current industry challenges.
See you soon Phoenix.
